Patrick Flanagan, MS
Scientist, educator, designer, carpenter, diver, filmmaker, jack-of-all-trades. Patrick is passionate about exploring how the world works and sharing it with others. As a versatile and creative problem-solver and natural leader, Patrick brings a host of creative and technical skills and a broad, integrated perspective to leadership at OLLIE.
Patrick holds a BS in Ecology, Evolution, & Biodiversity from UC Davis and an MS in Oceanography from Rutgers, and served two terms in AmeriCorps. Patrick's experience in more than 10 years of scientific research and informal education—particularly with traveling science education in underserved communities—inspired him to create a real-world, systems-based approach to ocean science that serves learners of diverse strengths and experiences.
Director of Strategy and Development
Peter is a strategy and product development consultant. A long-time believer in the power of social businesses, Peter built and managed software engineering teams focused on effective philanthropy, entrepreneurship, and financial inclusion. His experience in entrepreneurship and product management inform his focus on value propositions, sales channels, and a close understanding of customers, and how to support organizations as they scale. The son of educators, (and committed curious person), Peter loves to figure out how to mix surprise and delight into the learning environment to promote the understanding of our most critical of challenges: climate change. He lives in Hudson, NY with his wife and son.
Alison Decker, MBA
Alison is a manager of User Experience Research and Design at Liberty Mutual Insurance. As a product design leader within a Fortune 100 company, Alison has been able to collaborate with professionals across a multitude of fields to build robust and emotionally desirable products; ranging from fields such as marketing, finance, training, HR, sales, and IT innovation. Most importantly, Alison brings unabridged compassion into every engagement, so that the products she designs truly help to make people's lives better. Alison understands the critical role that successful business planning can and should play in the creative process, and she has a strong personal interest in protecting the environment through behavior and policy change.
Kristin Hunter-Thomson, MS, MAT
Kristin Hunter-Thomson is the owner of Dataspire Education & Evaluation LLC, where she facilitates professional development for educators, develops educational resources, and conducts STEM program evaluations focused around data and science literacy. With an MS in Marine Science and an MAT in Earth and Life Science for middle school and high school, Kristin has worked in science and science education for over 15 years in various locations around the US and abroad. Her middle/high school science teaching background, her experience in formal and informal education, and her training in marine science help her plan, develop, and implement professional development programs for educators, working in conjunction with scientists to ensure scientific accuracy and to make research data accessible to students.

Peter Girguis, PhD
Peter is a deep-sea microbiologist and Professor of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University. He holds a BS in Biology from UCLA and an MS and PhD in Ecology, Evolution, and Marine Biology from UC Santa Barbara. After a postdoc at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI), he joined Harvard University faculty as an assistant professor in 2005, becoming full professor in 2012. In addition to his faculty appointments, he founded alternative energy company Trophos Energy Inc., and continues to be active in entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship mentoring. Peter has authored or co-authored over 70 publications, including papers in the journals Nature, Science, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and the Proceedings of the Royal Society. Peter is also a board member of the Ocean Exploration Trust (OET), is on notable Schmidt Ocean Institute vehicle advisory boards, and served as chair of the National Science Foundations’ Deep Submergence Science Committee (DeSSC) from 2010 to 2016.
Uri is an entrepreneur, advisor, technologist, and genuinely curious human being. As the Founder of Neuro Native Labs, Uri has advised several science and tech startups on business strategy, product, sales and strategy. His portfolio of companies include Elliot Pierre, Senat & Co, and Kendor. Previously, Uri held operations and business development roles at Uber and Survey Retailer. Uri’s interest in oceanography stems from a former project “Tethys Deep,” which was a virtual reality platform that would connect users to underwater ROVs in real time around the world. As a member of the Advisory Board, Uri focuses on fundraising and strategy to help build the future of OLLIE.
